The hotel in Arequipa was lovely though. When we arrived we got the best breakfast we have had, with some cereal, fruit, bread, ham, and cheese. We then had to hang around a while for the rooms were readied, and we all tried Coca tea for the altitude.
Our room was palatial! We had the only balcony in the hotel, 4 beds and a sitting room, along with 6 power points around the toilet!
We just chilled out for the middle of the day, since we had had the overnight bus to contend with. It was nice to have a bit of down time actually. In the afternoon we went for a walk, and crepes, then we returned to the hotel for a bit before going to the San Catalina Covenant for a candlelight tour.
San Catalina Covenant still has active nuns, and it was a pretty interesting place to look around. Apparently the nuns back in the 16th/17th century had really good living conditions in comparison with the general populous, which isn't really how I think of them these days.
Afterward we went to a steak restaurant, where I tried a Pisco Sour. Between the altitude (2800m), and the fact that I rarely drink these days it got me fairly tipsy! It was brandy based too, which is not my first choice of drink but it was fairly nice.
Tomorrow we travel to Chivas, which is near Colca Canyon (where the condors are!!)
Edit: as requested by my mother, here are some room photos.
And one of Coca tea.

Can we have a photo of the palatial hotel room?
